Brittany J. Maxey, Esq. of Maxey Law Offices, PLLC was invited to be a moderator at the “Staying in the Game: Women, Leadership & the Law,” a luncheon and CLE hosted by the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on January 29, 2015.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced that it will hold its annual Regional Independent Inventors Conference on April 27-28, 2012, in Tampa, Fla. at the Embassy Suites located on the campus of the University of South Florida as one of its many outreach programs to assist independent inventors.
Teresa Stanek Rea, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the USPTO, will deliver the featured keynote speech of the conference. “The creative work of innovators helps drive our economy,” said Rea. “We know that intellectual property-intensive industries support at least 40 million jobs and contribute more than $5 trillion to the U.S. gross domestic product, and we want to reach out to and support the people who make that growth possible.” Rea will speak at Friday’s conference luncheon.
The conference will feature practical advice and information for novice and seasoned inventors provided by numerous experts and employees of the USPTO. Topics will include patent and trademark searching, claim drafting, and the ongoing implementation of the America Invents Act. Specialists will conduct workshops and be available for one-on-one conversations.

Maxey Law Offices, PLLC participated in the Clearwater Bar Association’s Annual Kettle Days for the Salvation Army. Every member of our firm joined us in ringing the bell at the Sam’s Club on Gulf to Bay and US Highway 19. We greatly enjoyed our hour of happiness, as we were greeted with warm smiles, friendly faces and holiday cheer!
Despite the chilly weather, the attendance was high and everyone that did make it out had a great time. There was plenty of great food and drink offerings provided by the event table sponsors.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. Our martini luge was a lot of fun and the tasty martinis were flowing all evening long. It was a close tie between the “Max-A-Tini” and the “Mr. Intellectual” for the fan favorite. The Max-A-Tini was a cranberry-cherry vodka martini and the Mr. Intellectual was a cranberry-pomegranate vodka martini.
Arctic Ice did an amazing job on the martini luge and I highly recommend their services should anyone be in the need for an ice sculpture or beverage luge. We explained a general idea to Russell at Arctic Ice of what we were looking for and he delivered beyond our expectations.
We would like to thank everyone who voted for our table! We are sure the vote was challenging with all of the other amazing tables this year. Everyone at our office worked hard putting it all together and winning the coveted beer stein was awesome.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to the St. Petersburg Bar Association and staff, the event committee, all of the event sponsors and to everyone who attended the event. With out everyone, this event would not have been such a huge success.
